MXR Zakk Wylde OD(ZW-44)
This is the MXR ZW-44 overdrive layout taken from Analogguru's schematic. I did not include Jack Orman's anti-LED pop this time but i use the original's LED switching instead. The pads labeled SWITCH is going to be connected in the 3PDT footswitch(if this will be used instead of DPDT). Please take note that the square pads of the diodes is the "+"(banded side or the cathode). Layout is verified.

hi
ReplyDeletefirst off, thanks for posting this!
and then, is the PCB ready to transfert or does it need to be resized?
and... a few questions about the pots, i guess the output pot is a 10K aas many others are, but which one is it? A, B, etc? and what does W mean for the tone pot?
thanks, regards
I probe this layout and had poor gain and the vol it two low; it´s there perhaps I use a replace TL082 for the inubicable MC33718 in PERú? or whatever is?????
ReplyDeletefrances,
ReplyDeletePot designations are according to the original units. The PCB is ready to transfer, yes. Just use a 10K -A(audio taper) for the volume/output.
Anonymous,
you might have a mistake in your build. Kindly double check it first. Any generic DUAL opamp will work.
I also have same problem, low gain low level. I used 4558 chip. Is this layout really verified?
ReplyDeleteLet me ask, what transistor were you using for this one?.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the capacitor above the GND and IN pads was mistakenly labeled 47uF, the correct value should be 4.7µF(4µ7).
This layout is based on this schematic: http://analogguru.an.ohost.de/193/schematics/Mxr_ZakkWylde.gif
Transistor calls for MPSA14, it's a high gain DARLINGTON type transistor!. You could probably use MPSA13 on this one.
I used MPSA13. Maybe I should make new pcb and try again.
ReplyDeletewhat about the resistor 1M (below the IN on the PCB) - this resistor is not included in the schematic terefore I am not sure it should be there or not ??
ReplyDeleteAnd also, what pots I should use ? are all of them linear ?
thanks
Hi! Is here someone that have built this board with some good result?
